Wed, 14 July 2010 ![]() Today's guest is Jeremy Grelle, SpringSource's lead on the Spring Flex integration project. I know Jeremy from his participation on a January Chariot TechCast podcast on Spring WebFlow and JSF, as well as getting him to come speak at Philly Emerging Technologies this year. Jeremy had recently released the Spring BlazeDS Integration project 1.5.0.M1 milestone, and within that project is contained the first version of the Spring Roo add-on that installs Spring BlazeDS in a standard Roo project. Within a few simple Roo commands, you can be generating Flex front-ends for your Spring Roo applications. Cool! In this podcast, Jeremy and I talk about the capabilities of Spring BlazeDS Integration, how the Spring Roo Flex add-on works today, and where it is going in the future. Also a great discussion happened at the end when we were discussing Roo add-ons. If you are at all interested in building your own Roo add-on you should listen to what Jeremy has to say about how they are put together. Very interesting stuff. For more about Spring Roo, visit www.springsource.org/roo. For more about Spring Blaze DS Integration, visit www.springsource.org/spring-flex. [Shameless Plug] Our Manning MEAP for Spring Roo in Action is now available. The first chapter is free! Head over to the MEAP Page for more details. [Another shameless plug] While I have you here, if you are interested in Spring training, Chariot Solutions (my employer) is an official SpringSource University and Sonatype Maven training Partner. You can see our full course calendar online at anytime. Visit www.chariotsolutions.com/education for details.

Sat, 10 July 2010 Today we welcome SpringSource team member Oliver Gierke to talk about the Hades project. Hades is a ORM Repository API for JPA that allows developers to build repositories in minutes. Using a combination of annotations and runtime proxies, Hades will build a DAO / Repository object for you at runtime, implementing all of the standard CRUD methods as well as any others you can think up. The tool takes an approach similar to Spring Integration, where the interface is built at development time, but the implementation class is synthesized or generated during Spring Container startup. Therefore the boilerplate methods are not written by the developer, and simple mechanisms like queries or finders (findByFirstNameAndMiddleInitial) are specified using conventions and annotations. In the podcast, Oliver and I talk about his motivation for creating the Hades project, how he got introduced to Roo and why he took on building an add-on to hook Hades into the framework. The Hades framework, including the Roo add-on, can be found on http://redmine.synyx.org/projects/hades/ Oliver can be found online at www.olivergierke.de or on twitter at @olivergierke Thanks, Oliver!! Espeically for arranging the cross-country timezone recording on a Saturday. Direct download: SpringRooPodcastCast-Episode2-OliverGierke.mp3 Category: podcasts -- posted at: 10:00 PM Comments[2] |
